"FROM BELLY TO BOLLYWOOD:  INDIAN DANCE FOR BELLYDANCERS!"

The
stylized artistry and spiritual power of Classical Indian dance offers a beautiful adjunct to those who enjoy fusing together Oriental dances. 

Our class will explore basic Bharata Natyam movements (classical Indian dance) that the dancer can choose to weave into their own choreographies or improvized dances.

Bollywood (Hindi Filmi) movies have always been popular in the South Asian communities here and abroad, but, recently they are coming to the forefront of western pop culture as well. 
We are now witnessesing Bollywood style Broadway shows, American movies, etc.  The exciting dance and singing productions, the high romance and melodrama are all fun and engaging for enthusiasts East and West. 

The dance forms utilized in Bollywood movies are a wonderful fusion of different dance styles.  Each choreographer has their own stamp and the styles vary for different stories.

Some dances emphasize more jazz, hip-hop and pop dance moves, others use more bellydancing, folk, Bhangra, or Classical Indian dance steps.  Usually they are a wonderful masala (mixture of spices) of all the above!

Learning many different dance forms affords the dancer with the ability to fuse different dance styles together and create exciting dances in the same manner expressed in lively Bollywood productions.

Prince Andrew also offers instruction in beginning belly dancing classes. The emphasis is on releasing somatized areas of the body where we trap our emotions and psychological knots.  Dance becomes a part of our own healing and joyful expression.

In studying Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, the flow of key energy channels and points are found along the pathways of the undulating dance. Belly dance is an enlivening tool for freeing the stagnation from these important pathways and allows healing to happen on the deepest levels of one’s psyche.
